Professional Face Painters
Wednesday, 8 October 2008
Hello again, and welcome to second entry on the article pages of Tumshies. Someone recently asked me about the issue of qualifications when it comes to facepainting in the UK, and how would one go about joining a team of professional face painters. So I thought I'd write a little about it here for anyone else who might have wondered.Advice and research gathered from the Internet can be misguided or lacking in evidence; asking for advice over the Internet is often akin to inviting ridicule and scorn upon yourself. As a little aside I had a browse around myself whilst doing some research for this article and came across a forum conversation where someone posed a question relating to what qualifications one needed to be a professional face painter. The first answer to come back stated that the only knowledge required was that of Kiss (the band) and its previous members so that you could paint the correct face no matter which one was requested!
As far as qualifications go there isn't anything specifically related to facepainting. To produce the professional finish we do requires artistic ability and skill which will usually mean previous study in the art arena. There are certain rules or criteria involved in being professional face painters which we ensure we adhere to in order to maintain the excellent reputation we have built. You can read about some of the health and hygiene rules we follow on the main pages of our website; this will give you an idea of how we approach our work. We are also members of FACE, the International Face Painting Association, and we adhere to their rules and standard codes of practice.
As professionals working with children and in the public domain we ensure all our face painters are CRB checked and we have public liability insurance. Being professional face painters isn't so much about having letters after your name, as much as it is about having the skill, flair and personality to inspire fun and enjoyment, as well as being vigilant in promoting the health and safety of those people in our care.
